Full name : Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam
1. Dr. Kalam was born in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on October 15, 1931, to a humble boat owner. A determined soul since childhood, he started working at an early age to contribute to the family income by distributing Newspaper.

3. Kalam used to get up at 4 am, bathe, and then go for his mathematics class, which was taught by a teacher who took only five students in the whole session; and bathing before class was a condition he had laid to all his students.
4. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai acted as the mentor and guide of Kalam. He gave Kalam valuable advice on how to always reach for the stars.

7. Once, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam rejected the suggestion to put broken glass on the wall of DRDO building that needed protection. Because broken glass would be harmful for birds!

9. Soon after it was declared that Dr. Kalam would be the next President, he visited a modest school to deliver a speech. Suddenly power went off but He walked right in the middle of the crowd and asked the students to surround him. He then spoke to 400 students with his bare voice and delivered, like always, an inspiring keynote.
10. President Kalam has given up all his life savings and salaries to a trust he founded named PURA (Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas).

12. Once during an event at IIT Varanasi, Dr. Kalam refused to sit on a chair that was designated for him – because the chair was larger in size than the other chairs! He was President at that time.
